Chaplain Storytelling is currently a pilot project with Signature HealthCARE. Our Chaplain Networking group became the pilot program for this group called Signature Storytellers. With our first meeting in May of 2014, and our Master Storyteller, Rocky Churchwell [now serving at Rockwood] we continued to meet every two months in Chattanooga, TN with the team. We hoped to practice our stories and learn some of the art of storytelling before we took storytelling “on the road.”
We learned various genres of storytelling, listening to stories, listening for stories, using our voices in pitch and modulation, writing, and memorizing stories. On January 29, 2015 we took our stories “on the road” to the Bridge at South Pittsburgh. Chaplain Ronnie Case hosted as we conducted a one hour program of singing and storytelling. The perfect attendance graduates of this school of storytelling are: Ronnie Case (South Pittsburgh), Tom Hicks (Harriman), and Nancy Penton (Buckhead). Other chaplains in our Networking Group participated with us along the way. So far, the “Signature Storytellers” have met and told stories at The Bridge at Monteagle in January and Signature HealthCARE of Buckhead in March 2015.
On Thursday, March 26th, it was our privilege at Signature HealthCARE of Buckhead to host the “Signature Storytellers” from Signature HealthCARE of Marietta [Rev. Olivia Maxwell] and Harriman Care and Rehab [Chaplain Tom Hicks] in Tennessee. The pilot program was so well received and plans are being made for our Master Storyteller chaplains to train other chaplains in the art and science of storytelling.
